FunFlight is a national not-for-profit organisation. Since it began in 2007, FunFlight has flown more than 12,000 people who make not otherwise have had the chance to be in the sky.
"To boil it down, it's a flight that's done through aero clubs around Australia for disadvantaged and disabled children," Dubbo Aero Club president Mick Robertson said.
"We take them for a flight at no charge - only a short flight - just to give them something extra in their lives."
The event was held at the Dubbo City Regional Airport precinct on Saturday, November 9. Similar FunFlight days were also held at other aero clubs across the country.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
In Dubbo, about 12 flights across the city were undertaken during the fun day. A range of aircraft were used for the flights and Mr Robertson said "they all loved it".
"Because of the weather conditions we could only give them a short flight but it certainly gave them an idea of what it's like. A lot of them had never been in an aeroplane before," Mr Robertson said.
Each flight included the child or children and a supervisor.
The Dubbo Aero Club has been involved in the initiative for the past few years.
FunFlight makes the offer to any clubs who wish to be involved.
"It's just to give the kids something a bit better in their life. We look forward to it every year. It all goes off well," Mr Robertson said.
While the initial FunFlight day was planned for a few weeks ago, it was cancelled due to undesirable weather conditions.
Mr Robertson said he wanted to thank Dubbo Regional Council for waiving the landing fees for the fun day.
