Did you back a winner on Melbourne Cup day at the Dubbo Turf Club?
I reckon we did.
I spent the afternoon chatting to several of our subscribers who won tickets to the day courtesy of the Daily Liberal.
It was good to meet them all and to thank them personally for subscribing to our website.
I heard mainly positive feedback from them, and I assured them, and I'll assure you that I will act upon the suggestions they gave to improve our website.
From offering longer yarns on the weekend, to publishing more good news stories, I've heard you, and we will take those suggestions up.
What a week it was in the newsroom.
Regional Express Airlines (REX) upped the ante in its war of words with the Dubbo Regional Council (DRC).
In a strongly worded letter to Dubbo residents delivered via a mass letterbox drop, REX has accused the council of "ripping off the Dubbo travelling community of over $3 million every year through its outrageous airport head tax charges".
Our deputy mayor was suitably annoyed with the letter, and his response shows a no-nonsense attitude from the council. Our mayor gave a considered response, and one gets the feeling he and our council want to sort things out with REX behind closed doors.
Still on council matters, calls to abolish or amend the "abhorrent" Dubbo Regional Council ward system have been made again 10 months out from the local government election.
When the NSW government merged the Dubbo City and Wellington Shire councils, it split the new council area up into five wards which required voters to elect representatives from one of the wards they lived in.
Outspoken former Dubbo mayor and state election candidate Mathew Dickerson, state Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders and Dubbo Regional Council mayor Ben Shields share their views on wards. It's a good read.
On the good news front, Kim Bartley has written a lovely yarn on an eventful childbirth in Dubbo. Have a read. It's worth it.
Soon you'll be getting an invitation to our first subscriber-only morning tea.
I look forward to meeting those of you that attend.
Thank you for subscribing to the Daily Liberal.
