"Volunteers who, without expectation of reward or praise, are those good people who go about their lives helping others and organisations which are focused on improving the quality of living for people and other members of the community," Cr Shields said.
Nominations for the Tony McGrane Public Service Award are closed to the public, nominees are determined and awarded by the Committee.
"Previous award winners have come from all walks of life. What is most impressive about them individually is the effort and commitment they all put back into the community - never once seeking praise or accolades," Cr Shields said.
"The great thing about the Dubbo Day Awards is we, as the community, get to take a moment and say, 'that person really has done some great things for our community'. So, put thought into action and get started on nominating someone today."
