Signarama Dubbo owners, Luke and Emma Lyons, are making a generous and time-consuming effort to encourage and support householders in making "water-wise decisions" in the countdown to level four water restrictions starting November 1.
They are making and giving away free signs that help property owners indicate the use of grey water, tank water or bore water on their gardens and/or lawns.
"We really just wanted to promote sustainable water usage and I suppose show the public or neighbours that you can still enjoy a greener garden or a greener lawn through tougher times," Mr Lyons said.
"We just saw a need for them."
Each of the signs bear the logos of four mates and clients who operate green space businesses being impacted by the worst drought in the history of NSW and resulting water restrictions.
They are Orana Turf Supplies, Dubbo Landscaping, Lawn-Pro Property Maintenance, and Dubbo Irrigation and Maintenance.
All of them are pick-up points for the free signs.
"They're all clients of mine and they have supported me over the years, and I just wanted to return the good will," Mr Lyons said.
The first of more than 2000 signs already waiting to be collected flew out the door of Signarama Dubbo at 120 Erskine Street on Thursday after promotion of the product on social media the previous day.
"We probably had in excess of 100 people come in on Thursday," Mr Lyons said.
"The front door has been like a revolving door. It's been great."
The businessman said he expected to make many more signs.
"So far we have made over 2000 signs but there's 14,500 households in Dubbo," he said.
"So we are probably looking at manufacturing around about the 10,000 mark.
"We're pretty much going to continue making them until we run out of stock or there's no demand."

Suppliers have got behind the Signarama Dubbo project.
"We've got some really supportive suppliers who have come to the party and donated the corflute and print media as well," Mr Lyons said.
The signs, which if for sale would cost about $25 each, are available from Signarama Dubbo between the hours of 9am and 3pm, Monday to Thursday, for people living in the Dubbo region local government area.
