Emergency services were called to a home on Cedar Circuit following reports of a house fire at 2.12pm on Thursday.
Fire and Rescue NSW Dubbo Station Officer Chris Cusack said the fire ignited at the rear of the property.
"A couple was home and they were alerted to the fire when the window smashed in the kitchen," he said.
"The man then attacked the fire in his shorts with the garden hose.
"A lounge on the patio at the rear of the house was destroyed by fire. The fire also caused considerable damage to the kitchen and smoke damage to the remainder of the house."
