NSW Families, Communities and Disability Services Minister Gareth Ward also visited Marathon Health to discuss a government-funded therapy program the service is delivering to support families and help keep kids out of foster care.
State member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders joined the minister at Marathon Health for the visit, which was promoted to media outlets after it occurred.
The Minister's visit to the Youth Justice facility did not appear to be promoted and came after Dubbo residents expressed outrage about a series of incidents, which involved detainees behaving badly.
Protests on the roof, acts of vandalism and violence towards staff have been routine occurrences at the facility and the youth justice system is being reviewed.
