Bailey Searle was chosen out of hundreds of applications from across the state to attend the Sydney Theatre Company's (STC) annual NSW Work Experience Week and was one of six students to receive the prestigious regional scholarship.
Bailey attended the Work Experience Week recently along with 25 other high school students from years 10 and 11 from all around NSW.
"It's been a great opportunity. Being from Dubbo these opportunities are not something we come by often, so I feel lucky," Bailey said.
Work Experience Week enables students to explore many facets of STC and gain a broad understanding of the workings of a theatre company.
The program endeavours to inspire a love and appreciation of the theatre-making process, as well as foster the next generation of arts industry professionals.

I've learnt the people you surround yourself with impacts on who you are and what you do, and to never let anyone tell you you can't do something.
- Bailey Searle
"Ever since I was little, I wanted to be an actor. For me, there was nothing else; it was always just an actor," Bailey said.
"Coming here has really opened my eyes. I think the biggest lesson I've taken from this experience is to have an open mind. Take all opportunities that arise and just get your foot in the door and your name out there first. Meeting the people here, I've also learnt that the people you surround yourself with impacts on who you are and what you do, and never let anyone tell you you can't do something."
Each day during the week, students focused on a different STC department, looking at programming, direction, set and costume design, marketing and corporate sponsorship.
Throughout the week, students participated in tours, panel discussions, workshops and activities as well as attending a performance of The Real Thing at Sydney Opera House.
The week culminated in a group presentation in which students pitched their concept ideas for a production of The Real Thing.
