Western hopes have largely avoided each other in the opening round of the Koori Knockout following the staging of the draw on Wednesday night.

This year's knockout, having been played at Dubbo last year, gets underway at Tuggerah on the Central Coast on Friday and again a number of communities and players from the western area will be on show.
They won't do battle in the opening round either, unlike last year where the Dubbo Pacemakers did battle with the Wellington Wedgetails.
This time around the Pacemakers start their campaign against Central Coast United.
The Wedgetails kick things off against Serpents while Nanima Common Connection, another Wellington-based side, has drawn the Lismore Wanderers in round one.
Walgett Aboriginal Connection, so often a powerhouse at the knockout, will take on the Campbelltown Ghosts first-up while the Googars, who will feature a host of Group 11 players as always, have again drawn the Doonside Brown Bears.
Doonside ended the Googars hopes in the opening round at Dubbo last year.
Elsewhere, the Alex Ronayne-captained Bourke Warriors will meet Foster East Coast Goannas in the opening round while the Gilgandra Sand Goanna will play Cultural Brothers United.
The defending champions, the Newcastle Yowies, play Combined Countries first.
