Judge Nanette Williams is the first woman who has been appointed to permanently preside at at the Dubbo District Court.
"My parents Len and Shirley Williams moved to Dubbo in 1962 as my dad worked with the PMG," Judge Williams told the Daily Liberal.
"I moved here with them and my sister Genevieve and my brother Sheldon.
"I attended school here from kindergarten through to sixth form, now year 12, doing the HSC at Dubbo High School. I was very grateful for the wonderful teachers at Dubbo High School who encouraged all of us to pursue tertiary study and to follow our dreams, mine of which was to study law at Sydney University."
Judge Williams said she looked forward to being part of the community.
"This is truly a wonderful opportunity to serve the people of western regional NSW, a place very close to my heart."
