The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment reports it has completed an expressions of interest (EOI) process for a long-term lease of about 3000 square metres to be available from mid-2021.
It's about to enter a more detailed tender process for the office space, equivalent to about 11 tennis courts in size and which is required to accommodate government employees.
A department spokesperson declined to say how many proponents had been shortlisted, but provided an update on progress to secure the 10-year lease.
"The expression of interest process is now complete, with shortlisted proponents determined and invited to participate in the second more detailed phase of the process," the spokesperson said.
"This more detailed process is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of this calendar year.
"The outcome of the second round tender process will inform timing of a final decision."
When asked if the department was confident it would be able to secure suitable office space by mid-2021, the spokesperson said: "Proposals received in response to the EOI indicate there are a variety of office accommodation options that would satisfy our requirements and be available by mid-2021."
The department started the search in May, advertising for EOI in national media and online on its tendering site.
Specifications were for quality modern accommodation, space to be provided over contiguous areas or floors, and with secure and undercover car parking.
