Mission Australia, in partnership with other services, has planned the MIND Your Health and Wellbeing walk to mark the start of Mental Health Month on Tuesday.
Community members are invited to join the walk to help raise awareness at a grass-roots level.
The importance of the event is underlined by Mindframe statistics that show each year about 20 per cent of Australians will experience a mental illness.
It is estimated about 45 per cent of the population may experience a mental illness at some point in their lives, Mindframe reports.
Mental illnesses are the third leading cause of disability burden in Australia, accounting for an estimated 27 per cent of the total years lost due to disability.
The walk will begin at 9:30am at Bob Jane T-mart and will finish at Macquarie Lions Park, where participants can enjoy morning tea, speak with service providers and participate in exercise and mindfulness activities.
Mission Australia support worker Emma Barrett said the event would be a great opportunity for Dubbo residents to come together to raise the profile of mental health issues and support in the local community.
"Mental Health Month is held each year in October to raise awareness for mental health and wellbeing across the country," she said.
"With a theme of Share the Journey, Mental Health Month will focus on ways in which we can all connect with other people in our community, both for our own health and wellbeing, as well as theirs.

"The Mind Your Health and Wellbeing event will be a great opportunity for Dubbo residents to pop on their walking shoes, enjoy exercise activities and morning tea, and chat with local service providers about the things we can all do to improve mental health and wellbeing in our community."
After the walk, Dubbo MP Dugald Saunders will give a special welcome to event participants and officially open Mental Health Month in Dubbo.
The event will also include service information stalls from Wellways, NSW Health, Catholic Care and other service providers.
Mission Australia operates the Enhanced Adult Community Living Support program in Dubbo.
This program provides additional psychosocial support for people who have a mental illness and are accessing clinical support from the Local Health District.
These supports allow people to maximise their participation in the community, and include help attending appointments, access to education and training, and support developing daily living skills.
