The Commercial Hotel is introducing the Community Bar Tender concept to "give back to the community and have some fun".

Once a month it's inviting a charity group or organisation to "take over" for the night, trying their hand behind the bar.

The Exchange is the first organisation to get on board, with its team to report for duty at the pub on Thursday night.

Two more community groups have been confirmed for October and November, and the hotel is inviting anyone interested to get in touch.

Participating groups will take home $1 from every drink served for three hours from 6pm, plus all proceeds from the meat raffles.

"...it really was just another avenue the team came up with to give back to the community and have some fun," hotel licensee and owner Ben Lawler said.

The publican reports receiving a great reaction on social media, prompting the team's hopes the concept will be well-received in its first event on Thursday.

The Exchange team was thrilled to be asked by the Commercial to be part of the first Community Bar Tender event, "perfect timing" coming as it celebrated its first birthday this month. Since being launched by CEO and founder Jillian Kilby, The Exchange has experienced rapid growth, it reports.

"We are a social enterprise, which means we have specific social objectives," a spokesperson said.

So far, The Exchange had provided 24-plus free Learning Lunches, impacting more than 600 people.

"We have held free Women in Construction educational evenings, impacting 80-plus women," the spokesperson said.

"We have provided free access to experts in residence, such as our Stanford University student, Bella You...

"Within this year, we have welcomed more than 120 community members, 46 coworking members, 3000 plus online followers."

The proceeds raised will go towards The Exchange's Learning Lunches, it reports.
