Tyson Maziuk had been drinking rum on June 7 before he got behind the wheel and drove to an ATM at Orana Mall, court documents revealed.
While on South Buninyong Road the car drifted to one side and the 18-year-old tried to steer it back but over-corrected and the car flipped onto its roof.
A test of Maziuk's breath came back with a reading of 0.127, despite L-plate drivers not being allowed to drive under the influence of any alcohol.
"I've learnt from what I've done," Maziuk told Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday.
Maziuk pleaded guilty to negligent driving and mid-range drink driving charges.
Magistrate Gary Wilson convicted Maziuk and dismissed a driving unaccompanied charge.
The teen was fined a total of $1250 and disqualified from driving for six months. He was also placed on a 12-month community corrections order and ordered to install an alcohol interlock device on his vehicle for a year.
