Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Bell Shakespeare's associate director James Evans, is a comedy play written by William Shakespeare.
It is one of Shakespeare's contemporary comedies where romance is thwarted by dastardly plots, misinformation, false accusations, broken promises, and bumbling cops. Or so it seems.
Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre manager Linda Christof said she was enthused by the quality of Bell Shakespeare and their productions and 'Much Ado About Nothing' was no exception.
"This major production company aims to present Shakespeare in a way that is accessible to modern-day audiences whilst still satisfying the traditionalist," Ms Christof said.
'Much Ado About Nothing' is said to be the rom-com of the year, a powerful exploration of the struggle for identity and self-knowledge in a male-dominated world.
The production of 'Much Ado About Nothing' is silly, fun, filled with snarky jokes, slapstick comedy and a journey through the dynamics of the pursuit of love.
The play follows star characters Beatrice and Benedick, and Claudio and Hero.
Claudio and Hero are deeply in love. Beatrice and Benedick would rather swap sassy insults than sweet nothings, they wield words as weapons, their banter betraying their love for each other.
However, Claudio is quickly seduced by envy and this idyllic world threatens to come tumbling down as he humiliates Hero.
Beatrice and Benedick must join forces to defend true love-even if they can't recognise it in themselves.
Even though the script is centuries old, the interpretation, set design and costumes are modified to be modern and will appeal to a broad demographic.
Mayor of the Dubbo Region Ben Shields is also a fan of the show.
"It's a great opportunity for the public to see a world-famous play in action, right here in Dubbo," Cr Shields said.
"The fact that people don't have to travel hundreds of kilometres to watch incredible plays like this shows that Dubbo is a destination of choice for performers."
