Council staff had to ask an electrician to turn off an irrigation pump so the game could continue.
"Staff found that the box housing the manual lever for the sprinkler system had been opened and the handle was manually turned during the game," council's chief executive officer Michael McMahon told the Daily Liberal.
"The police were contacted in relation to this matter but as the housing had been opened with a designated key there is no crime to investigate," he said.
"To avoid this happening in the future council are replacing the padlock to this housing with a separate key to the rest of the amenities sporting clubs can access.
"This is an unfortunate incident, that through some minor changes to locking systems, will not happen in the future."
