Entering as overwhelming favourites after winning every match this season, the girls knew they could not afford to be complacent on Sunday in the game that mattered the most.

SDW made a few early attacks which meant Wellington were switched on from the start.

Some great work from Warriors goalkeeper Sam Perring and solid tackles in defence led by captain Zoe Burn, Isabelle Fitzsimmons and Jessica Last kept the SDW attackers in check.

The Warriors soon turned defence into attack and around the 20 minute mark, were rewarded with a penalty for handball in the box by a SDW defender.

Arki Lewsam stepped up to the spot and slotted the penalty to the delight of the crowd, giving the Wellington girls a well deserved lead.

A few minutes later and like so often this season, Sara Darney worked her magic, stepping around the SDW defence to slot a goal from a tight angle.

These two goals lifted the entire team and the girls rode a wave of momentum into the halftime break, but the match was far from over.

SDW fought back after halftime and clawed back a goal which put the match right back in the balance but Wellington still looked like the better team.

Knowing that one more goal would likely seal victory, Wellington came agonisingly close in the final 15 minutes.

Amali McNeil hit the post and Savannah Lang hit the crossbar but both shots somehow stayed out.

The pressure was finally relieved in the final five minutes as Jacqui Ryan slotted the goal which sealed victory and the girls and crowd full of Wellington supporters were finally able to celebrate a fitting end to a perfect season.

Sara Darney was awarded the match ball by the referee for being Wellington's player of the match.

The Wellington Warriors men's team took on Macquarie in the third grade grand final and despite their valiant effort, went down 1-0 in an extra time thriller.

Wellington came into the match as underdogs following a number of previous defeats to Macquarie this season but showed they were up for the challenge.

Both teams created a few chances in the first half, but it was Macquarie who came closest to scoring, hitting both posts and the crossbar with three separate shots.

Wellington's defence still looked solid but it was the midfield trio of Josh Pearce, Ngahla Talbot and Dillon Price who really looked to take the fight to Macquarie. At halftime the score was nil-all.

They started the second half full of belief, knowing Macquarie was starting to tire.

In one of many controversial calls, Wellington were reduced to 10 men for the remainder of the match after goalkeeper Sam Birbiles was sent off for alleged dissent.

Wellington managed to create a few chances towards the end of the match and came close to snatching victory but just couldn't find the net.

At the end of 90 minutes the match was deadlocked nil-all forcing it into two x 15 minute halves of extra time.

With just five minutes remaining in the second half of extra time, Macquarie managed to sneak home what would be the winning goal.

Both teams fought hard in extra time, Wellington showed a tremendous amount of fight after going down a man, but with just five minutes remaining in the second half of extra time, Macquarie managed to sneak home what would be the winning goal.

Wellington still never gave up and pushed everyone forward including new goalkeeper Dave Grant in the final minutes but they just couldn't find the equaliser.

It was a remarkable performance from the men to come so close to pulling it off after playing at a disadvantage for an hour.

For his great effort in the middle of the park, Josh Pearce was awarded the match ball by the referee for being Wellington's player of the match.
