The Stampede will be held at Taronga Western Plains Zoo on Sunday.

Mr Brookfield, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, is taking part in the 5.3 kilometre dingo dash with his daughter.

The five kilometre walk is nothing new for the competitor. He goes for an hour-long walk every day and takes part in the Dubbo parkrun every Saturday.

Mr Brookfield has achieved a milestone at parkrun, having taken part in about 60.

"I don't run but I like walking, it keeps me fit, it's exercise. When you haven't got a job or anything to do you need to exercise to keep fit," he said.

"I never thought I'd become lazy but I became lazy when I retired and gave up work all together. This is a way to keep fit and it's a social thing too because you meet people."

The Stampede participant said he wanted to be fit and healthy to continue to enjoy the lifestyle he had in retirement. Mr Brookfield said he was very grateful to be able to do all the things he did at 90-years-old.

When his eldest daughter suggested they do the Stampede together, Mr Brookfield was happy to sign up.

There wasn't a specific reason for doing it, he said, it was simply something to do.

"It's some dad-daughter time. It's great. We're very fortunate we've got our three daughters around and so we see that part of our family very often which is good," he said.

Mr Brookfield has extra motivation to complete the Stampede in a good time. His great-granddaughter, granddaughter and her husband are flying out of Dubbo that morning.

As soon as the dingo dash is finished, they'll be rushing to the Dubbo airport to say goodbye.

More than 1500 people from all across Australia took part in the Dubbo Stampede last year.
