Thomas Charles McKellar was on parole when he took the machine in the middle of the day on March 18.
Court documents revealed McKellar went into a man's home, took the machine and then used a shopping trolley at the back of the house to cart it away.
The man who owned the machine noticed McKellar walking along Fitzroy Street and asked him to return the machine.
McKellar picked up a pitch fork and used it to attack the machine, which was valued at $649.
Well both him [the victim] and his mum owe my mum money.

The man who owned the machine feared for his safety and fled to a payphone.
He called police while community members saw McKellar dump the trolley and machine on Dawson Street.
According to court documents the machine ended up on the road and was severely damaged.
"Well both him [the victim] and his mum owe my mum money," McKellar said to police when they caught him.
When he appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Tuesday McKellar pleaded guilty to stealing the karaoke machine.
McKellar's legal representative told the court his client left school in Year 8 and started using ice when he was 15-years-old but has recently stopped.
He had been held in custody since March, needed drug and alcohol rehabilitation and was previously convicted of break and enter offences, the court heard.
"These type of offences happen all too often, particularly in this community," Magistrate Gary Wilson said.
Prior to sentencing the magistrate took into account McKellar's special circumstances and guilty plea.
McKellar was sentenced to a 12 months prison term with a seven month non-parole period.
The sentence was backdated to March 18 when McKellar first went into custody and he will be eligible for parole on October 17.
