The ever-popular Dubbo Stampede is set to make it's highly anticipated return this weekend, with $10,000 in prize money up for grabs for any runner, walker or wheelchair user involved in the weekend's contests.

Participants who are still interested in competing, but haven't yet registered will have until mid-night on the Friday, August 23 to finalise their registration, according to the Stampede's President Matt O'Dea.
"People have until midnight, but spot's are closing up fast and we do have limits on how many people can compete, so if they're still on the fence, they should decide soon," O'Dea said.
"The weather's looking pretty good, perfect for running, nice and still, great running weather."

O'Dea, who's seen a few previous Stampedes, said the event is proceeding as smoothly as can be expected.
"This is my first year as president, though I've been on the committee for about four or five years, we've got a pretty well oiled machine these days, so the stress levels haven't increased at all, a few sleepless nights ahead, I'm sure."
After many months of organising we cant wait to get out there on Sunday and see so many smiling faces taking part in this great event.

While the event's guests haven't yet been nailed down entirely, the races will again feature appearances by athletes from the Indigenous Marathon Project.
"We support them every year."
Organisers are also anticipating an increase in the number of participants, which O'Dea puts down to the longevity of the Stampede providing more people with the confidence to attempt the longer distance events.
"Our numbers are up across the longer distances, we've filled up our marathon this year, we've got a full event this year with a whole hundred competitors," O'Dea said.
"We've noticed that Mudgee have experienced the same thing, numbers are plateauing across the shorter events, between us and the Parkrun, I think there's definitely more people out there running in the community and I think people are comfortable stepping up to that longer distance."
Runners this year will also be accommodated by an expo to be held at the Zoo on the day prior, giving those competing a number of opportunities to prepare for their chosen event.
"This year, we're trying something a bit different on the Saturday, we've got a runner's expo on Saturday at midday," O'Dea said.
"People are welcome to come down grab their bib with their number and Dubbo Rehab Specialist Services are offering pre-race strapping."
