Despite missing out on the sort of resounding, field-clearing win with which left an impression in last month's heat, Stephen Dowton and Pocket Beauty got the job done once again on Sunday.

The Parkes trainer might not have had the highest hopes for a repeat performance, given that Pocket Beauty ($1.55) drew the figurative short-straw and started from the back in Sunday's start, but the pairing were able to produce a little early magic to reset the field.
In the end, the duo took out the Garrards Rio Meteor Series Final (2120m) by a head.
"It just depended on how the race was going to pan out. I was confident but drawing the back line, you've always got doubts," Dowton said.
"I got a good run out of him though, we got through and I got outside the leader easier than I thought I would, and he just likes to bowl it at a nice even tempo, so that part of it was very good for us."
"I think it went the way we were expecting, there were no real surprises."

The five-year-old gelding had energy to burn, putting on a crucial burst of speed to break free of the bulk of the pack in the early going and claiming a contested second position on the first corner, before holding that position throughout the contest, jockeying for position with the Nathan Hurst led Gabbys Sportstar.
"He's a trier, he tries his heart out, if he had a bit more of an acceleration about him, he'd probably be able to go a fair way," Dowton said.
The gelding has one more start in place for him before a much deserved spell, after a recent run of success dating back a few months across winning appearances in Parkes and Dubbo both.
"He's had a really good run, we'll be going back to Dubbo next Sunday, as far as I'm aware, there's another race there for him, and then we'll probably give him a let up and bring him back for the summertime."
Dowton also welcomed the 'great initiative' between Parkes and Dubbo's harness racing clubs and Garrard's Horse and Hounds.

"It's good to have our sponsors backing us and having some of that new thinking involved."
That 'new thinking' meant only those who had raced at Parkes and Dubbo both were able to contest the Garrards sponsored race, something Dowton welcomed.
Bathurst driver Amanda Turnbull scored a win in the Peter Lew Memorial race, while Nathan Hurst enjoyed a winning treble with Major Hall, Tulhurst Writer and Tulhurst Santanna.
