The Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition is one of the largest of its kind and is open to all primary school students in years five and six, with awards presented to the top performers in each region.
Last year Benjamin English from Dubbo Christian School received the Mudgee District Year six Award, setting the challenge for his fellow students.
On Wednesday, August 21, 19,226 from across 334 schools will put their mathematics and problem-solving skills to the test for the 39th edition of the competition, 137 of those year five and six students will be from Dubbo.
Newcastle Permanent Branch Lending Manager, Samantha Theobald said the competition aims to encourage students to enjoy maths, by challenging them to use problem-solving skills in life-based situations.
"It promotes the fun of overcoming maths challenges while teaching students fundamental life skills," Ms Theobald said.
"We wish the students in Dubbo the best as they take part in the 39th annual exam on Wednesday," she said.
"We're told many adults find the exams challenge their own problem-solving abilities."
"Each year, students produce some outstanding results and no doubt this year they will continue to keep on producing."
