Ali Ridha and his close mates, Haider Ali and James Joseph all share a mutual love of science and have dedicated their time to scientific research.
The trio gave a presentation of their science research project to an audience of teachers, including St John's College's passionate physics teacher Jose Sunny last Thursday.
The presentation was given to the school during National Science Week celebrations with the 2019 theme being 'Destination Moon'.
The state competition requires volunteering students to upload a scientific research presentation with a September 23 deadline.
After the presentation is submitted to the Young Scientist Award committee mid-September the students will have to present further evidence of their research and a winner will then be picked from NSW.
Mr Sunny encouraged his students to enter the competition because he knew they had the desire, interest and ability to excel in the science field.
Mr Sunny said the project presentation requires an intricate researching process and praised his students for their exceptional intellect and talent.
All three boys aim to have a career in the field of science, with a particular interest in science medicine.
Their presentation focused on the immobilisation of enzymes and innovative techniques, such as immobilisation in fermentation related industries, to increase the efficiency and sustainability of products.
"This is the first time St John's is involved in such a prestigious competition," Mr Sonny said.
"The whole idea was to allow my students to showcase their work.
"These students are highly talented, so I wanted to instigate their passion. As soon as I said there was a competition they put their hands up for it."
The students said they couldn't have done the presentation without the help of Mr Sunny and St John's science assistant Mrs Chapman.
Other students volunteering their time and talent to Science Week at St John's College were year 11 students Claire Waddell and Natasha Ho, who created the Science Week poster.
