Over 200 people gathered at the Skillset Flannery Centre to recognise the best apprentices, trainees, organisations and students from across the Central West and Orana regions at the annual Skillset Awards ceremony.
Each year, Skillset recognises individuals, businesses and organisations who have excelled in employment, skills development and education programs.
The award recognises one of the 291 program participants from the past 12 months who had shown determination to secure an apprenticeship.
"Mr Carriage displayed a commitment to developing his experience in the industry to help secure an apprenticeship, and through his impressive work ethic, he has thrived in all aspects of his apprenticeship since being with Dubbo Regional Council," a Skillset spokesperson said.
Local employers, Dubbo City Toyota and Dubbo Regional Council were also recognised for their significant training and support of apprentices and trainees, being named as finalists for the Small to Medium and Large Host of the Year Award, respectively.
Dubbo Apprentices Jay Bailey (Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology at Dubbo Regional Council) was named as a finalist for the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Apprentice or Trainee of the Year Award.
Brenton Ney of Dubbo, (Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology Narromine Shire Council), was a finalist for the Joyce Hawkes Trainee of the Year Award.
Mark Woodhead, (Certificate III Electrotechnology Electrician at Western NSW Local Health District), was a finalist for the Gordon Hawkes Apprentice of the Year Award.
Skillset also provided awards for its skills and mentoring programs including the Mentor Plus Award which was awarded to TAFE NSW.
TAFE NSW endorsed their strong working relationship which has allowed Skillset to provide intensive support to over 1400 apprentices and trainees across the Mining and Construction industries.
Skillset General Manager Jane McWilliam said the awards are an excellent opportunity to recognise individuals and businesses who have excelled throughout the year.
"We love to recognise our talented apprentices, trainees, students and organisations for their significant achievements," Ms McWilliam said. "It's amazing to see the transformations that our people go through and their achievements should be commended."
Skillset CEO Craig Randazzo said they are "committed to building skills and jobs and it is gratifying to see outstanding results acknowledged. We couldn't do it without the determination of our students, and the support of our host businesses."
