A MOTHER charged with the murder of her three-year-old daughter has not applied for bail in Orange Local Court on Thursday.
Tamara Gurney appeared in court via video link from Orange Police Station and did not enter a plea.
Police fronted the media earlier in the morning, asking to speak to anyone who has had recent contact with the family of the girl, who was killed two weeks ago.
Forty-year-old Gurney was charged with one count of murder after she was released from Bloomfield into police custody about midnight.
Central West Police District Superintendent Chris Taylor said police still could not release details of the girl's injuries.
"There was evidence used from the autopsy in this investigation, I'm not going into details of that, but that will be put before the coroner in due course," he said.
"During the investigation over the last two weeks there's been many pieces of evidence found which have led to those charges."
Superintendent Taylor said he wasn't prepared to comment on the medical reasons behind the mother's need to stay in Bloomfield for two weeks.
"Suffice to say she wasn't fit to be out in the community, that was determined by the doctors that she remain in the hospital," he said.
He said investigations were still under way, with more people "on the periphery" still to be interviewed and the report for the coroner was expected to take a number of months.
"The family are devastated, they're trying to come to terms with why this has happened," he said.
"The mother is coping as well as she can with this.
"I would like to ask anyone in the Orange area or elsewhere if they have had contact in the recent past with the family if they could contact us here at Orange Police Station because we'd like to have a chat."
He confirmed police had spoken to the victim's father in Queensland several times, as well as the accused's mother.
"It's been very trying for police because it's not every day that a child is killed in such circumstances," he said.
"Those officers [first on scene] have been put in contact with our support services and we're in contact with them all the time just discussing things to make sure there's no adverse reactions."
Gurney will appear again in October - solicitor Simeon Miller requested the brief of evidence.
Police can be contacted on 6363 6399.
