The Orana K9 Training Club held its annual Obedience and Rally O Trial from Friday to Sunday at Dubbo.
The competition held at Katrina Gibbs Ovals attracted about 185 entries from Victoria, the ACT, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong and country areas of NSW.
Dogs and handlers have to work as a team to navigate various stations and courses, while being judged.
Those who do the best win the section, but may also achieve a sought-after championship title.
Ellie Kay travelled from Lake Macquarie with Scandal, her four-year-old long stock coat German shepherd.
The proud owner offered some tips for success.
"Perseverance, praise and persistence - but lots of praise," she said.
Orana K9 Training Club president Reg Parker said the trial catered for all experience, from "novice to established dogs".
The club started in June 2017 and at this year's trial for the first time there were eight entries from Dubbo.
Mr Parker said the club met for training every Sunday morning at the Katrina Gibbs Ovals and encouraged dog lovers to come along.
