Theatre and Convention Centre Manager Linda Christof said the award is significant because it's the only industry award for performing arts centres that recognise expertise in management and operation.
"Being one in four out of 152 venues across Australia is phenomenal," Ms Christof said.
"The team is thrilled to have been announced as a finalist because it means our peers in our industry, which is the touring companies who tour nationally, have nominated who they think is the best venue to tour to.
"The reason being a finalist means so much to the team is that it shows we're all about total quality management, to make sure we are meeting customer expectations, and to attract more audiences. It shows we are hitting that benchmark and that we're doing best practice for our centre. That encapsulates everything, the 'calibre of our season program', the friendliness of staff, the time the casting crew arrives at the stage door, the way they get perceived by the technical staff, our marketing, generally how we liaise with the touring party, and any initiatives we put in place to help develop audiences for the shows."
Ms Christof said having a very passionate team and a very supportive council is a feather in their cap.
"We have a team of eight full-time staff, but it's important to remember that we also have a large team of volunteers, casual bar-tenders and ticketing officers," she said.
"We also have a multi-skilled team, and the fact that they're all motivated and passionate is what makes this team work."
Ms Christof said the Dubbo Theatre draws people from outside of the area to our region.
"Those people who attend the theatre from around the region shop here, and they book local accommodation. It is not only good for our residents.
"Having a professional performing arts centre in a regional area aims to provide people with the same opportunities for regional communities as those in metropolitan areas. Those in our regional areas must not miss out on quality touring productions, and that's for a whole lot of reasons, it can be for pure enjoyment, education, and those who want to be a part of professional productions for their personal development. It's a great social hub and for business and community events."
Mayor of the Dubbo Region Ben Shields, is thrilled with the announcement.
"I'd like to congratulate the DRTCC team on this fantastic announcement," he said.
"I've been told the awards are determined using an Academy Awards approach-judged by the industry rather than a Logies' approach via popular vote. I am very proud of the way staff have continued to work diligently over the years on total quality management in all areas of the operation. As a team, they are constantly striving for the best industry practice-with every team member contributing."
