The Special Commission of Inquiry into the drug ice was announced in November 2018 and due to report in October.
In May the commissioner leading the inquiry, Professor Dan Howard SC, asked NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to extend the final report deadline because more time was needed to "address the many important matters raised by the terms of reference".
Ms Berejiklian responded last month and extended the final report deadline to January 28, 2020.
"...I acknowledge the complexity of the matters...I am also mindful of the importance of delivering outcomes for the people of NSW in a timely manner to combat the evolving threat of this dangerous drug," she said.
State Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders and government ministers said a push to build a drug detox and rehab facility in Western NSW would be responded to after the ice inquiry concluded and the final report was completed.
Mr Saunders, NSW Governor Margaret Beazley, federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton, Dubbo Regional Council mayor Ben Shields, former NSW District Court Judge John Nicholson SC, NSW Labor and the Royal Flying Doctor Service have all backed calls for a rehab facility to be built in Dubbo or Western NSW.
