However, according to the Academy Principal Mandi Randell, the Academy is indeed still operating, and better than ever, currently residing in a new, bigger and better location.
The Academy decided to move from its former location near the Dubbo Western Plains Cultural Centre and is now at the TAFE site at the corner of Fitzroy and Bultje Street.
Ms Randell said the move was due to the Academy having outgrown the space of their first location and them needing more room to accommodate their expansion.
"The site will ensure the future growth of the Academy. We went from two classrooms at the Cultural Centre to 11 at our new site with a dedicated space for Engineering and STEM classes," Ms Randell said.
"We are central and accessible and are within walking distance of all of the amazing amenities of the CBD from the Macquarie Conservatorium, the PCYC, Victoria Park, the Library, WPCC and more.
"We now have space to be able to hold our second annual primary school Philosothon: The Big Ideas Challenge here on site this term instead of needing to outsource to a community venue. We have rooms available to hold our many holiday camps on-site as well as space to continue offering professional learning to any teachers in the region as well.
"It's great to have such an excellent facility to house our growth for the medium term while we work toward creating our own, purpose-built campus."
NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell MP and local MP Dugald Saunders were given a tour of the new location on Tuesday. Ms Randell said the visit led to many exciting discussions around what they have planned for the Academy in the future.
"The opportunities to highlight the future-focused learning we are doing and discuss several issues facing regional education with Mr Saunders and Ms Mitchell were fantastic," she said.
