Dubbo Regional Council has given its support for Mathew Dickerson to be given the title of emeritus mayor.

Mr Dickerson was elected as mayor of Dubbo City Council on September 8, 2011. He held the position for four years and eight months, until the amalgamation with Wellington Shire Council in 2016.
The emeritus mayor title is given by Local Government NSW for mayors who have had extended service. As it currently stands, the mayor has to have served for six years and can not currently be in office. However, LGNSW is in the process of reducing it to five years.
At the time Mr Dickerson was mayor, the role had to have been held for three years.

Those who receive the award are presented with a certificate and a lapel pin.
Councillors voted on the nomination on Monday night at the July Ordinary Meeting of council.
Councillors Greg Mohr, Dayne Gumley and Stephen Lawrence did not support the nomination, however, the other seven did and so it was approved.
It will now be in LGNSW's hands to decide if it's accepted.
