He didn't let the opportunity pass him by.
Twinkle Toes Ted ($1.75) led from start to finish in Monday's Duke's Ladbrokes Previews Heat 2 (450 metres) at Kennerson Park to earn his breakthrough win.
Allen Hansen's runner rarely looked bothered against the tiny field as he crossed the line in a time of 25.92 seconds.
Massive Moment ($7) gave pursuit but had to settle for second place three lengths behind.
"I'm very happy. He's only had the one trial here," Hansen said.
"My worry was how he'd handle [the 450m]. He'd had a couple of hard runs at Bulli over the 400m to get him ready though and he's a good railer.
"I hope he can continue improving and get himself up to the 500m."
The field came out of the boxes evenly before Twinkle Toes Ted edged ahead on the turn.
Diva's Banjo, Massive Moment and Misload formed a line of three as Hansen's greyhound opened an early four length advantage.
Diva's Banjo briefly had Massive Moment's measure until the pair swapped spots on the back straight.
While that battle was unfolding Twinkle Toes Ted was busy maintaining his hefty lead.
Massive Moment ate into the lead over the closing 100m but not enough to bother the leader.
Diva's Banjo ($2.50) bested Misload in the battle for third.
