About 8.30am on Monday emergency services were called to the Bylong Valley Way, about eight kilometres west of Kandos, after a Holden commodore left the road and hit a tree.
The male driver and sole occupant died at the scene.
Officers from Orana-Mid Western Police District have established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Bylong Valley Way is closed between Kandos and Ilford with local traffic diversions in place.
Motorists are advised to plan an alternate route.
