"We played Triple J's One Night Stand in Dubbo a few years back, and that was amazing," he said.
"We haven't been back since so we're looking forward to returning and putting on our own show.
"It's going to be special.
"We try to bring the same energy and spectacle to every show we play, whether it's a big festival like Splendour In The Grass or a smaller more intimate show like the one coming up in Dubbo.
Elliot said for The Rubens it's about having fun on stage and sharing that with the audience.
"Rural audiences are always high energy and enthusiastic, probably because touring bands don't make it out to more regional areas as much as the main cities on the tour circuit.
"They really appreciate it and make the most of it."
Elliott said most of their songs are fictional, stories they create rather than stories taken straight from their lives.
"For us, the music always comes first so the lyrics need to complement the mood of the song," he said.
"Keeping the songwriting fictional means we don't have to relive personal stories on stage every night in front of an audience, but also, it means people are able to find their own meaning in the music."
Elliot said he's not worried about touring with his brothers and best friends despite the small space and minimal time to themselves.
"Three of us are brothers and all five of us are best mates so we never really have any problems being together on the road.
"We know each other's dirty habits, and we get each other's humour, we can tell if someone just wants to be left alone."
Elliot said they're lucky to all get along so well, but there will be one person on the tour they may have to look out for.
"He's not a band member but our good mate and crew member, Fraser, he always manages to get up to mischief on tour.
"After a night out he's the one whose stories you want to hear. None of them printable, bless him.
"Forming the band definitely has strengthened the bonds between us. Spending so much time together in the studio and on the road means it's kind of unavoidable."
