There has been a fantastic response to the news last week that Dubbo would play host to two high-level sporting events. There was a fantastic reaction to the plans to bring an A-League pre-season trial between the Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC to Apex Oval on Saturday September 21.

There was more good news on Friday with the announcement of a National Rugby Championships (NRC) match involving the NSW Country Eagles and Sydney Rays on August 31.
These will be two outstanding events that will bring significant exposure and economic benefit to Dubbo. The A-League match is great chance to see two of the top sides in the national competition getting ready for the upcoming season.
Both teams are looking for a big 2019-20 and the trial is one of just a handful of opportunities for coaches to get their players ready. There will be some leading players on show and it's a great opportunity for fans of the sport to get along and see a game in their home town, but also for those who can appreciate watching any professional sport.
Soccer, or football, depending on who you ask, is one of Dubbo's biggest sports, particularly for juniors, so this is a special chance for young players to see the professionals in action.
The NRC match will be a home game for the Country Eagles. They are a side based in Regional NSW but until now they haven't played a match in Dubbo. I am pleased that will be addressed this season.
There is another aspect to this game and that is the Country versus City rivalry between the sides and I hope the crowd will really get out there and support the Eagles. I have to congratulate the NSW Country Rugby Union on their decision to bring the game out here. They are very eager and recognise the potential of playing a match here.
My hope is that both games are a great success with large crowds to emphasise Dubbo's sporting prowess. Our city has a great record of supporting events when they come along and I am confident these will be no different.
General admission tickets for the A-League match are now sale and there is an early bird discount if you purchase before August 31. Tickets for adults are just $20, while children aged 13-17 are $5. Children aged 12 and under get free tickets. Tickets can be purchased from http://bit.ly/JetsvFC.
This is fantastic value and will make for a great afternoon of entertainment. After September 1 tickets will rerun to general prices but are still extremely well-priced for such a major event. Tickets for the NRC match will go on sale soon. Keep an eye on the Dubbo Regional Council Facebook page or visit dubbo.nsw.gov.au for information.
We should recognise and support the codes that have understood the value of bringing a match to Dubbo.
Both the A-League and NRC will put on a great show and those who attend won't be disappointed.
