Marathon Health has welcomed a federal government commitment to get children into the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) faster.

It reports that the current average wait of 127 days is being reduced to a maximum of 50 days.
Marathon Health regional manager Justine Summers said it would take a few months to clear backlogs.
"But this is great news for children with a disability across the region," she said.

"The NDIS has the potential to be a really fantastic asset to so many local families."
Marathon Health staff worked alongside families and carers to provide support to children with significant and permanent disabilities or developmental delays, Ms Summers said.
"Support to these participants really needs to be immediate, so it's encouraging to see the government recognise their needs and work to address them," she said.
