With the news that the Dubbo regional Council has successfully brokered a deal with the Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC to bring an A-league game to our city, it is worth reflecting on why bringing these types of events to Dubbo is good.

The event, in this case, is an A-league pre-season game, but it could be a music festival, a rugby league tournament or an industry convention.
Special events are a great way to drive money into our city.
Mayor Ben Shields anticipates this A-league game will attract visitors who will travel from other locations to attend and that it will bring a sudden, economic boost for local businesses.
Hotels will benefit, restaurants, our RSL, pubs, petrol station and retailers will all share in the money that Novocastrian's and Sydneysiders who make the trek to Dubbo for the game will bring.
Newcastle and Sydney supporters will have several travel options open to them if they want to make a weekend of football and fun in Dubbo.
"Fly Pelican is in a perfect position to provide a direct flight from Newcastle to Dubbo," Cr Shields said. "With Regular flights from Dubbo to Sydney supporters from the city should make a weekend of it and absolutely enjoy our region while they are out here.
And why wouldn't they? After the footy, they could go to the zoo or check out the old Dubbo Gaol. At night they could grab a meal at the Pastoral Hotel and then catch a show at the Dubbo Theatre and Convention Centre or the RSL.
These types of events help cement Dubbo's reputation as a regional city that can successfully hold events. That can only help our city be in the forefront of promoters minds when they are thinking about touring festivals or sports club CEO's when they want to expand their reach into the rural areas of Australia. And that's a good thing.
