United broke the Bulls' winning streak handing the ladder leaders its first loss of the season on the weekend, not quite the result Bulls Coach Jason Schink had been hoping for.
The 2-1 score was a massive turn around from the last time the sides clashed in round three earlier in the season when Macquarie failed to score against the Bulls for the entire game, giving the Bulls a 4-0 victory.
Schink had said earlier in the season he was hoping for the Bulls to gain a bit of breathing space at the top of the ladder, but that wish is now looking a little shaky for his side.
The win didn't come easily for Macquarie as the teams battled it out in a hard-fought game of high-quality football.
Macquarie coach Alan Auld had said the round three loss at the hands of defending premiers, the Bulls - was a "reality check".
Ald told his side, "they needed to have a look at themselves and take a bit of pride in the shirt," and it seems that those words paid off.
According to Ald the mindset of some of the Macquarie players earlier in the season was that "they expected to win," and so they were going into games over-confident.
Schink said in regards to the Bulls round five clash against the Orana Spurs that Orana and Macquarie were his sides biggest competitors.

"There's only a small gap between us, the Spurs and Macquarie," Schink said, and it seems that gap is shrinking.
Round five also saw the Orana spurs draw in the clash against the Wanderers.
The sides were evenly matched with a score of 3-all.
The Newtown Saints dominated and outnumbered Westside Panthers 7-2, but the statistics for Westside are improving as they go further into the season.
Westside hadn't scored until round four of the season, where the side took out its first win against the Wanderers.
Westside had only managed one goal over the course of the three rounds between round four and round seven, so the two goals for the game shows an improved effort.
ROUND NINE
This Sunday for round nine of the competition will see Macquarie United go up against the Orana Spurs.
The Bulls will face off against the Newtown Saints for the chance to turn the tables back around.
The Westside Panthers will battle it out in it's clash against the Wanderers, for the second time this season, as they try their hands for a second win against the side.
