Dubbo musician Christopher Goud received a $1000 Instrumental Scholarship donated by the Daily Liberal, over the weekend during an awards presentations.
The scholarship was presented to Christopher at the Macquarie Conservatorium by Daily Liberal Sales Manager Marilyn Brann.
The trombone player said although he felt good about his performances, he hadn't been expecting to receive the scholarship.
"Most of them [performances] I thought I had done alright, but for one, in particular, I thought I had stuffed up," Christopher said.

But the shock only made for an even happier Christopher.
"Brass players don't often get this one [the scholarship].
"It often goes to all the string and piano players, because they're technically brilliant.
"They're all exceptional.
"So it's not very common for a brass player to get this kind of scholarship."
Christopher said he isn't sure where the scholarship was going to take him because he did not expect to get it.
"I'm a bit overwhelmed," he said.
Christopher's love for music was passed on to him by his father, who also has a passion for musical instruments. Initially, he had wanted to play the drums but decided to go for something a little less common and popular.
According to Christopher, playing the trombone is fun.
"I love all the funny noises it makes," he said.
