The Macquarie River Megabucks fishing competition has seen some huge Murray Cod chalked up on the leader board of late, with the fish placing first through third all well and truly over the magic one metre mark.

Joe Smith climbed into third place on Sunday with a 113.5cm trophy specimen that he caught and released, with the fish crushing a mumbler style lure right next to the boat and putting the Dubbo based fisher in running for $2,000 should the current competition standings remain.
Out in front with a brute of a fish caught earlier in the year, Harrison Gunning's 119cm Murray Cod is currently the fish to beat, with the green back putting him in a likely position to walk away with a cool $10,000 cash when the competition closes on September 1 st .
In second place with a specimen that graced the brag-mat at 114cm, Norm Wilson's mighty Murray Cod will also take come chasing down if he is to be knocked off the podium.
The Wellington based fisher had social media in a spin upon capturing his trophy, with the jaw dropping Cod again showing what the Macquarie River is capable of producing.
The Macquarie River Megabucks rules are quite simple, with a full video run down and the current leader board accessible to members through the events Facebook page.
Competitors must be responsible fishers who support the Murray Cod breeding closed season.
With all entered to be caught within the confines of Burrendong Dam, or in the Macquarie River above or below Burrendong Dam.
Entrants need to take a photo of their fish on a measuring mat with the back of their fishing license on top of the fish.
An activation was announced at the opening of the competition to ensure that all competitors start fishing at the same time.
This MUST be written on the back of the fishing license in removable texta and must be clearly visible in the photo.
If you are not required to have a NSW fishing license - a 50 cent coin must be placed on top of the fish with the activation code written on it in texta.
In order to be eligible for consideration in the competition, a photograph must be supplied with the fish on the mat, and a video of the fish being released must be posted on the events Facebook page.
