Dubbo Regional Council New Residents Program Officer Tammy Pickering is encouraging all new-comers to attend Dubbo's 'new residents nights'.

The event is a free social event run by Ms Pickering, providing new residents with an opportunity to form connections within the community.
The event is apart of the Councils new resident attraction program, through marketing campaigns such as Evocities.
They host three new resident events a year, two in Dubbo, and one in Wellington, and anyone who has moved to the region within the last 12 months is welcome to register.
Ms Pickering said the council understands how crucial it is to engage new residents within our community.
"This event is a great way to link people directly with businesses and community groups, but it also gives those who are new to our region a place to meet with others and share similar experiences," she said.
"The hope is they swap numbers, or take up a new interest, so they feel more connected to their new home.
"I provide them with information such as local schools, employment agencies and real estates.
"It can also just be local knowledge around how to navigate the challenges of moving, especially if they are moving interstate."
Ms Pickering said the events are held at facilities within Dubbo that hold significance within our community.
"Our last event was held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre; new residents experienced what an amazing facility that is and appreciate the calibre of shows it hosts while on a behind the scenes tour hosted by Manager, Linda Christof," she said.
"Taronga Western Plains Zoo donated a prize so the winner can explore their backyard a little further and see for themselves how lucky our residents are.
"The businesses who advertise in our new resident guide attend the event and are great ambassadors for our city, most have a similar experience of moving while showcasing the services they provide."
Ms Pickering said Mayor, Ben Shields, uses the events as an opportunity to greet new residents.
"Anyone looking to move to Dubbo can contact me directly, or for most, the first point of contact is through our Visitor Information Centre or Evocities website," Ms Pickering said.
"Once they have made contact with me, I invite them directly to the next new resident event."
