DubCon will be held at the Western Plains Cultural Centre this weekend.
"I was booked in to go to a convention and we discovered our tickets were cancelled because they were full. So I went 'we'll just hold our own convention'. And DubCon was born," said organiser Adam Clark.
As well as board games, the convention will also include card games, miniature reenactments and plenty of other tabletop games.
Mr Clark said there were already 10 or 15 people who would be travelling from up to six hours away to attend, as well as another 30 people from Dubbo who had RSVPed.

All will get the chance to play, learn and meet new people.
"I go to games conventions because I get to hang out with mates. It's like a holiday, you don't have any responsibilities, you just sit around and play some games. I don't know what other people do on their holidays but I don't sit around and drink beer and stare at the ocean," Mr Clark said.
"A lot of the games can be silly so you get a comedy value out of it. It's something to do with your mates or your family that you get some funny stories out of and a good laugh, rather than sitting their watching telly."
Rather than Monopoly or Scrabble, DubCon will feature some more unique games. Basement Games will also be present with games people can borrow or buy. There will be opportunities to play your favourites or have someone to teach you.
"A lot of the games are so different from what you played as a kid. And there's such a broad range and ways to play," Mr Clark said.
DubCon will be held in the WPCC's Community Arts Centre. It will run from 10am to midnight on Saturday, 9am until midnight Sunday and 9am until 6pm on Monday.
Entry to the event will cost a gold coin.
Mr Clark said he wanted to thank Dubbo Regional Council, Basement Games, Pizza Capers and the South Dubbo Veterans and Men's Shed.
