Australians are looking for colder climates and more regional getaway destinations this winter, according to a recent study that puts Dubbo near the top of the list for fastest growing holiday spots.

The study, conducted by examining trends in hotel bookings across the last winter period, was conducted by the Expedia Group and demonstrated a large increase in winter visitors for the state of New South Wales as a whole.
New South Wales recorded a thirty five percent growth in comparison to previous years, with most of the visitors to regional NSW coming from Queensland and Victoria.

Dubbo came just behind Orange in terms of growth, reporting a twenty percent increase compared to the last season.
Jamie Griego of the Expedia Group claims the strong interest from interstate travellers will translate into an economic boon for local hotel owners.
"We know that those from 'generation X' are most likely to be travelling over this period, as they regularly favour domestic travel," Mr Griego said.
