It may seem a strange idea for rivals to underestimate a club the stature of the Roos but coach Simon Petelo admits that could be the case after a somewhat underwhelming start to the season.
After the first round of matches the Roos sit second from bottom with just one win to their name.
The second round starts this weekend with Petelo's men making the trek to Bathurst to take on an undefeated Bulldogs side which scored a convincing win at No. 1 Oval on the first day of the season.
"In the first round some teams want to stay on top and win consistent games but for me as a new coach with new players we had to scan the competition," Petelo said.
"We're going to be peaking at the right time and other clubs might underestimate the Roos. I think we can surprise some teams in the next couple of weeks."

Surprises wouldn't come much bigger than a win over the Bulldogs at Ashwood Park.
The Bathurst side has swept all before it so far this season and is already six points clear at the top.
Petelo is well aware his side will have to be at its best to get close to the men in blue and gold, but he feels that performance isn't far away.
"We're a pretty positive coaching staff and we think we can get momentum in the second round," he said.
"If players look at the table they could be disheartened by the position but the players are starting to execute and work on the set-piece and skill-sets and that makes a good forward projection.
"We're building to a really good complete performance."
Petelo stated confidence hasn't wavered too much within the squad with only late tries deciding recent contests with the Cowra Eagles and the Forbes Platypi.
The Roos missed Simon Hegarty at the lineout last round at Forbes and his return will be a boost this weekend, while fellow back-rowers Will Archer and Ben Knaggs continue to impress and flyhalf Hamish Gordon was praised for giving better direction and taking better options recently.
In other boost for the Roos, Petelo confirmed former Eastwood captain Mark Baldwin is set to return a week from Saturday after suffering an ACL injury last May.
The inability to field a consistent lineup is something captain Shaun McHugh highlighted as a reason the Roos haven't been able to get over the line this season.
The addition of Baldwin and more consistent appearances from others, which is expected in the coming weeks, after a disjointed start to the season is something Petelo is relishing.
"We've got the right balance," Petelo said, before touching on Saturday's game once more.
"Bulldogs will be tough, they're top of the ladder, but if we execute and play to our gameplan and minimise errors we'll go a long way."
Saturday's first-grade game kicks off at 3.15pm.
