Polling booths were open from 8am until 6pm, with thousands of people turning out to cast their vote.
At 11pm on Saturday, 57,089 formal votes had been counted in the Parkes electorate with 29,143 of them going to Mr Coulton.
Labor's Jack Ayoub came in second with 13,755 formal votes.
Pre-poll and postal votes have not yet been counted.
Mr Coulton spoke to Australia Community Media about his victory.
