By the close of business on Friday, the Australian Electoral Commission said 660,000 people had early voted, previously known as pre-polling.

In comparison, at the end of the first week for 2016 - which was a day shorter as voting started on the Tuesday - there had been 315,000 votes.

Early voting will run for three weeks until the election on May 18.

There are six candidates running in the Parkes electorate. They are: Liberal Democrats' Daniel Jones, The Nationals' Mark Coulton, The Greens' David Paull, Labor's Jack Ayoub, Independent Will Landers and United Australia Party's Petrus Van Der Steen.

There are 109,639 registered voters in the electorate.

There are seven early voting centres open across Parkes, including in Dubbo.

The Dubbo early voting centre is at 88-90 Macquarie Street. This week it's open Monday to Thursday from 8.30am until 5.30pm, as well as from 8.30am until 6pm on Friday.

It will also be open on Saturday, May 11 from 9am until 4pm.

To early vote you must be outside the electorate where you're enrolled to vote on election day. Reasons accepted by the Australian Electoral Commission include: travelling, being unable to leave your workplace to vote, be due to give birth shortly or have religious beliefs that prevent you from attending a polling place.

Applications for postal votes close on May 15 at 6pm.

Ballot papers have to be completed and witnessed on or before election day on May 18 and posted back to the Australian Electoral Commission.

Postal voting is available for anyone unable to get to a polling centre on election day.

At the 2016 federal election, 71,406 votes were cast overseas. Australia's largest overseas voting centre was at Australia House in London where 15,663 votes were cast.

Overseas Voting Centres are established in 85 countries at selected Australian Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions.

"By international standards, Australia's federal electoral system is one of the most open and accessible in operation today," Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers said.

"Whether you're residing, working or holidaying overseas at the moment, make sure your vote counts in the 2019 election."

Telephone voting is available at the federal election for anyone who is blind or has low vision.

There are two steps to telephone voting: registering and casting a vote.

Registering for telephone voting is available by calling 1800 913 993.

The registration process includes being asked questions to check your details on the electoral role and then choosing a PIN.

The PIN will be used when casting a vote to mark you off the electoral roll.

Eight polling places will be open in Dubbo on election day.

They are: 88-90 Macquarie Street, Buninyong Public School, Dubbo Christian School, Dubbo College Delroy Campus, Dubbo College South Campus, Dubbo North Public School, Dubbo South Public School and Orana Heights Public School.

Voting will also be available at Ballimore Public School, Eumungerie Public School, Narromine Public School, Nyngan High School, Trangie Central School and Wongarbon Public School.
