Last Wednesday in Dubbo Local Court, Jonathan Shane Shannon, of MacGregor Street, pleaded guilty to three charges - intimidation, assault and being armed with an intent to commit an offence.
Police said after Shannon had been drinking alcohol on March 23 he threatened a woman and called her an obscene name.
"I should just cut your throat," Shannon told the woman.
"I should just slice your throat, you're a waste of air."
After saying he'd shove internet modem cords down the woman's throat, he then ran towards her.
Shannon proceeded to push the left side of the woman's head and caused her to fall off a chair.
Police said he then hit her with an internet modem and "continued to push down on her head".
Shannon hit the woman a second time, police said.
The woman was left frightened and afraid, and in tears during a police interview.
"These types of matters, particularly domestic violence matters, are not to be tolerated in any shape or form," Magistrate Gary Wilson told Shannon in court.
"You've only got one other matter of violence in your history, which is common assault in 1999," he said before convicting Shannon of all three charges.
For his crime, Shannon was placed on a community corrections order for 12 months. It requires him to be of good behavior.
