The Drought Communities Programme, which Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Parkes MP Mark Coulton announced would be extended if the government is re-elected, has helped fund a new pavilion at the Gilgandra Showground.

After welcoming the Prime Minister and senior government figures to the 104^th annual Gilgandra Show on Saturday, show society president Alan Smith said the community appreciated the support.

"The new pavilion will include a full commercial kitchen and office space," Mr Smith said.

"It'll allow other functions to be held here."

Mr Smith said the show society has received additional funding in the past, which combined with community spirit and dedicated volunteers, ensured Gilgandra remains resilient in the face of drought.

"The funding we've received in the past has allowed us to bolster our entertainment program and prize money in an otherwise tough year."

Bourke and Cobar shows were recently cancelled and the government hopes the $20 million in grants it has promised to give show societies will ensure country shows survive and thrive, instead of die.

"It's nice to have this support that will solidify the show movement," Mr Smith said.
