While those experiences and the court precincts they took place in have been a long way from where Ms Wells grew up in Cobar, they are chronicled in her critically acclaimed memoir The Court Reporter.
Ms Wells will visit Dubbo on Wednesday to discuss the book and her remarkable career, which has involved her reporting on the murder trials of Gordon Wood, Keli Lane and Jeffrey Gilham.
Working for the ABC, she has filed thousands of stories about murderers, sex offenders, thieves, dodgy drivers, family feuds and business deals gone horribly wrong.
Before she joined the ABC, Ms Wells was a newsreader for the 2GB and 2WS radio stations.
She was also the editor of the My Business Success magazine.
Community members can meet Ms Wells and hear about her fascinating career at the Book Connection in Macquarie Street, Dubbo on Wednesday at 6pm.
