With donations having dropped, the need to reiterate the importance of donations has become significant.
According to Australian Red Cross Blood Service Community Relations Officer Brian Bruce, just one donation will help to save the lives of three people.
"One in three people will need blood in their lifetime, yet only one in 30 Australians donate each year," Mr Bruce said.
"Around 9 million Australians are eligible to give blood but only 500,000 actively do so.
On arrival donors will need to fill out a Donor Questionair regarding your general heath- this is completely confidential.
You will then have a short interview with a trained staff member to assess your suitability.
Mr Bruce said the actual giving of blood will only take five to 15 minutes.
"You should allow yourself about an hour from the time of arrival to departure," he said.
Mr Bruce states that blood transfusions can at some point be necessary to anyone.
"Cancer patients, pregnant mums, road trauma victims, premature babies, and people with blood disorders need blood every day," He said.
"Blood is vital to life and, for many people, blood donors are their lifeline."
There are eight blood types and because type O is the most common blood type, it is also the most needed.
Type O negative is particularly valuble because, in certain emergency situations, it can be used when the patient's blood type is unknown.
You can visit the Dubbo Blood Donor Centre at 1/150 Darling Street to make your donation.
Trading hours from Monday to Wednesday for the Dubbo Blood bank is11:30am to 7pm.
From Thursday they are open 8am to 2pm, and Friday they are open 8am to 3pm.
On the first Saturday of every month the Blood Bank will open from 8am to 12:30pm.
Every donor is cared thoroughly both before and after they've had their blood taken.
