The Old Dubbo Gaol was one city attraction buzzing with activity throughout the weekend.
The Lindens from Sydney chose Dubbo as their holiday destination for the Taronga Western Plains Zoo and the Old Dubbo Gaol.
They stayed two nights in the city, and were then extending their stay in the region with two nights at the Warrumbungles.
The Knight family of Wollongong headed inland for children Libby and Blake's first trip to Dubbo.
During the stay they had visited Taronga Western Plains Zoo and the Old Dubbo Gaol.
"We've had a great time visiting Dubbo," mum Libby Knight said.
Peter Brown and Megan Casserly of Dubbo visited the heritage attraction with children Amira and Logan.
The Old Dubbo Gaol hosted an Easter Family Fun Day on Sunday, with shows by Kirk's Reptiles, craft activities, characters in costume and Guided Escapes Tours.
Old Dubbo Gaol operations coordinator Kim Hague said there had been lots of crowds consistently all day.
"A good mix of visitors and locals who are all enjoying the performances and additional activities we have at the Gaol," she said.
"We're open all Easter weekend and every day except Christmas Day."
Cascades Motor Inn and Bellotti's Italian Dining owner Ashleigh Bellotti said Easter was one of the busiest times in the year, both in accommodation and the restaurant and this year was no different.
The motor inn had no vacancies throughout most of the period, and Mr Bellotti said he thought it had been the same for everyone in the industry citywide.
The visitation was on the back of Taronga Western Plains Zoo, the Old Dubbo Gaol, and this year the Dubbo Observatory, he said.
"We're very fortunate the tourist attractions are well-received and well-used by all our guests," Mr Bellotti said.
The motor inn did a minimum stay for the period and most guests had stayed for two or three nights, he said.
Last week there was demand for rooms from Queenslanders before their school holiday period ended.
For the Easter weekend, most guests had been Sydneysiders, Mr Bellotti reported.
