Dubbo Show Society secretary Sue Hood enthusiastically adds extra duties to her busy role.
This month her 36-year involvement was recognised with the 2019 Agricultural Societies Council (ASC) of NSW President's Award.
Her work to run a showgirl development weekend twice a year for more than 15 years with Sue Tink was one aspect of her service highlighted during the announcement in Sydney.
Back in Dubbo, Mrs Hood was surprised to learn of the honour.
"I'm very humbled about it," she said.
"You volunteer and work for a community group and you do it and you don't look for recognition, you do it because you love it.
"And it's in your blood, how could you get it out of it."
Her early years at the showground were helping her father exhibit cattle.
Thirty-six years ago Mrs Hood started working in the show office, before stepping up to secretary in 1996.
"It's full-time plus, you do your normal hours and the rest of your work is voluntary hours really, you do it in your own time," she said.
As secretary of the western group of shows - a group of 23 shows - Mrs Hood is also there to help the region and represents it as an ASC director.
The mum and grandmother credited her family's support has instrumental.
"You wouldn't be able to do it without the support of your family," Mrs Hood said.
"I've just been lucky actually, I stepped into it at the right time when the kids were old enough and I was able to put the time into it."
Now it's the countdown to the Dubbo Show on May 24-26 and the secretary is feeling excited.
"A lot of people place doom and gloom on drought but I think this is a time for people to get together and come together and enjoy one another's company and enjoy what the show is all about, which is community, it's a community event," Mrs Hood said.
There's plenty of new attractions.
"We've just engaged a Lego company to do a Lego challenge here, so it will be here for the three days, and that's free for the kids to enter, and it will be in the Ray Clarke pavilion," Mrs Hood said.
"We've never had anything like that and Lego's such a big thing now."
